On 20 March 2018, the Queensland Government announced it is developing a comprehensive new strategy underpinned by a waste disposal levy to increase recycling and recovery and create new jobs. The new strategy will provide the resource recovery and waste sector with the policy certainty that has been lacking, leading to significant underinvestment in new and expanded resource recovery infrastructure in Queensland. It will also prioritise waste types for action and identify key re-investment opportunities.

The directions for a new strategy and initial details for the waste disposal levy were outlined in the Transforming Queensland’s Recycling and Waste Industry Directions Paper (PDF, 3.04MB).
