With a mix of sadness and gratitude for their inspiring leadership, the AIEN would like to announce the retirement of Mr Garbis Simonian, Chair of AIEN, and Dr Robin Branson, effective 22 February 2018.

Mr Simonian and Dr Branson have played a critical role in the development and success of the organisation, and we thank them for all their tireless work over the years.

The Board has elected Mr Colin Barker to the position of Chair, and Mr Kurt Palmer to the position of Deputy Chair, and has appointed Mr Mike Haywood as a new Board Member.

Colin Barker, AIEN Chair

Colin has worked with many companies throughout NSW and nationally in the areas of waste minimisation, industrial ecology and resource efficiency.

His current employment with Advitech as Manager Process Engineering and Sustainability, and his work within the NSW Sustainability Advantage program, have provided many such opportunities over more than a decade.

Colin is also currently a Director of Newtecpoly Pty Ltd and CEO of PolyWaste Technologies Limited HK.

Kurt Palmer, AIEN Deputy Chair

Kurt has been in the recycling industry for eight years selling equipment throughout South East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

His main focus in the recycling industry has been improving the profitability of his customers through process improvement and plant automation.

Kurt has a passion for recycling and reducing the environmental impact we are having on the planet, bringing with him 25 years of experience.

Mike Haywood

Mike has over 25 years hands-on knowledge of the waste industry in Australia.

In 2010, Mike started his own consultancy, providing services to the Resource Recovery Industry in the area of sustainability.

Mike’s unique ability to assess and understand the commodity value of waste streams and evaluate tonne as volume has enabled him to specialise in processes to work smarter, improve profits, implement sustainability outcomes and EfW programs in a low carbon constrained circular economy.
